Part 6: The role of the chief executive

The Acas Chief Executive has responsibility, under the Council for the overall management and staffing of Acas and for its procedures in financial l and other matters, including conduct and discipline. This involves the promotion by leadership and example of the values embodied in the Committee on Standards in Public Life's Seven Principles of Public life. It is important that Council members support the Chief Executive in undertaking this responsibility.

The Chief Executive is also Acas' accounting officer. This role carries with it personal responsibility for the propriety and regularity of the public finances for which the Chief Executive is answerable and for ensuring that appropriate advice is given to the Council on all matters relating to financial propriety and regularity, for the keeping of proper accounts and for the efficient and effective use of such resources. The accounting officer is liable to be examined on these matters by the Committee of Public Accounts of the House of Commons.
